Willich's Senior Citizens Prepare for Council Elections, City Celebrates International Day of Older Persons

The city of Willich is gearing up for the Senior Citizens' Council elections on November 19, 2025, with over 18,000 eligible voters. The council, active for over 30 years, serves as the voice of the '58+' generation. Meanwhile, the city celebrated the International Day of Older Persons on October 1st, highlighting its commitment to the elderly population.

Willich's Senior Citizens' Office, with an eight-member team, offers a wide range of services. These include senior festivals, individual case counseling, a Care Support Point, housing advice, and the role of the 'Senior Citizens' Guide'. The city also launched the Willich Time Bank in 2023, involving volunteers visiting older people regularly for social interaction.

Eva Dregger, working in the city administration's cultural affairs department, plays a key role in these initiatives. The city is planning a cross-generational action year against loneliness in 2026, coordinated by the Senior Citizens' Office. This aligns with Willich's guiding principle of 'Living and aging together'.

Willich presents a diverse range of offerings for its senior citizens, including community centers and quarter development initiatives. With the Senior Citizens' Council elections approaching, the city ensures the voices of its older generation are heard and supported.
