Visualizing Health and Healing
================================================================================================================
The Loyola University Art Gallery (LUAG) is currently showcasing the exhibit, "Well, Well, Well: Picturing Wellness in the LUAG Collection," in two locations: the Fairchild-Martindale Library Study Gallery and the Gallery at Rauch Business Center. This exhibit, which focuses on themes of wellness as depicted through artworks in their collection, is designed as a nod to the university's new College of Health.
Stacie Brennan, LUAG's curator of education, explains the exhibit's focus on wellness. "Artistic and cultural activities can strengthen people's well-being and health in various ways," she believes. The exhibit promotes the concept of wellness, focusing on the dynamic relationship between mind, body, and spirit.
The exhibit features a variety of community activities, including family workshops, creative journaling sessions, and Wellness Week contests. These interactive programming elements encourage visitors to reflect on and experience wellness concepts. The exhibit also includes virtual tours, lectures, and a video series focused on discovering wellness through art.
Partners for the exhibit include the Shanthi Project and Artists for Change, organisations that align with LUAG's commitment to promoting wellness. According to Stacie Brennan, the arts provide an excellent means for people to express themselves and facilitate communication and coping, especially during challenging times like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The exhibit comprises pieces that highlight different forms of wellness, such as medicine, emotion, and expressions of color. It is a testament to the university's dedication to fostering a holistic approach to health and well-being.
The exhibit is on display until May 28, 2021, at the university Art Galleries. For more information on activities and the exhibit, visitors can visit luag.org. Stacie Brennan hopes that the exhibit brings awareness to the impact of artistic and cultural participation on people's well-being and health. LUAG has not stated any plans to stop promoting wellness.
In light of the COVID-19 lockdown, the exhibit provides an opportunity to initiate a dialogue about well-being and the role of art in promoting it. LUAG has embraced its role in wellness programming and continues to strive towards creating meaningful experiences that promote holistic wellness.
