Vaccine's initial doses reportedly hold significant impact, according to Spahn

The Federal Health Minister, Jens Spahn (CDU), has announced that prioritization will be crucial for Germany's COVID-19 vaccine campaign at least until the end of March. This decision comes as the country prepares to launch its vaccination drive, with significant effects expected from the start.

Spahn anticipates a positive impact from the start of the vaccination campaign, with 1.3 million doses of the Biontech vaccine already delivered to the federal states this year. By the end of December, an additional 10 million doses are expected, and another 10 million are anticipated by the end of January. These doses, Spahn believes, can make a significant difference for many care facilities.

The Biontech vaccine delivery to federal states will continue, ensuring a steady supply of vaccines. However, no new information about the number of doses that will be delivered after January has been provided.

In addition, Spahn expects the approval of 1.5 million doses from Moderna, should it be granted. Yet, no new specific timeline or number of doses has been announced for the Moderna vaccine.

As part of the progression of the vaccination campaign, medical practices are expected to be authorized to administer COVID-19 vaccinations starting from the second quarter of 2021. This will be alongside the prioritization of risk groups from early 2021.

Gradual vaccinations in doctor's practices may be possible in the second quarter, according to the health minister. However, it's important to note that prioritization will remain necessary until at least the end of March.

In conclusion, Germany is making steady progress in its COVID-19 vaccination campaign, with significant doses of the Biontech vaccine already delivered and more expected in the coming months. The approval of the Moderna vaccine, if granted, will also contribute to the campaign's success. The prioritization of vaccinations will continue to be crucial until the end of March, as we work towards a safer and healthier future for all.
