Beth Bailey, Ph.D., a distinguished professor of history at the University of Kansas, will be delivering a lecture titled "Prescribing the Pill" as part of Park University's Women's History Month event on March 30, 2020. The event, which is open to the public and free of charge, will take place at the Jenkin and Barbara David Theater inside Alumni Hall on the Parkville Campus.

Dr. Bailey, who is also the director of the Center for Military, War and Society Studies, has a reputation for her scholarly work in military history and societal issues. Her publications include From Front Porch to Back Seat: Courtship in 20th Century America, Sex in the Heartland and America's Army: Making the All-Volunteer Force.

In her upcoming lecture, Dr. Bailey will delve into the historical, social, and political aspects of the birth control pill's introduction and its impact on women's lives, health policies, and society. Specifically, she will discuss the method of birth control as a symbol of women's freedom and the struggle over access to the pill.

Dr. Bailey's expertise in history and social issues suggests that the lecture will explore the broader cultural and policy significance of prescribing oral contraceptives, contextualizing it within women's rights and medical history. Her current research focuses on how the U.S. Army tried to manage what army leaders often called the "problem of race" during the Vietnam era.

For more precise details about the lecture itself, Park University's event announcements or Dr. Bailey's publications might provide further insights. Dr. Bailey serves on the Department of the Army Historical Advisory Subcommittee and on the Board of Trustees for the Society of Military History, and she is a member of the Society of American Historians.
