Trump Advises Pregnant Women to Avoid Tylenol Despite Lack of Evidence

A recent Swedish study has found no causal link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism. Despite this, US President Donald Trump has advised pregnant women to avoid Tylenol, causing confusion and frustration among global health experts and parents.

The large-scale Swedish study conducted a sibling-control analysis, comparing acetaminophen use among siblings with and without autism. The results showed no causal link between the two. This aligns with the World Health Organisation's (WHO) stance, which maintains there is no conclusive scientific evidence supporting such a connection.

President Trump, however, has expressed his views on the matter, stating that his advice is based on 'common sense' and personal beliefs rather than scientific evidence. He has announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would advise doctors to limit Tylenol recommendations during pregnancy, unless medically necessary. This move has been met with criticism from medical professionals worldwide, including those in Kenya, who cite a lack of scientific evidence to support Trump's claims.

Dr. Agufana, a medical professional, recommends consulting epidemiological studies, toxicological reports, and clinical trial data to investigate the potential connection between paracetamol and autism. Paracetamol, or Tylenol, has been in use since the 1960s and post-marketing surveillance has not captured any link between it and autism.

Despite the Swedish study's findings and the WHO's position, President Trump has advised pregnant women to avoid Tylenol. Medical professionals worldwide continue to refute these claims, emphasizing the lack of scientific evidence linking acetaminophen to autism. Pregnant women are advised to consult their healthcare providers for medical advice tailored to their specific situations.
