TGen's social media platform is a finalist for a prestigious international award in the social impact category.

In the fight against Alzheimer's disease, every contribution counts. That's why the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in Phoenix, Arizona, has launched an innovative online research project named our platform.org. This web-based scientific study is designed to explore how the brain learns and remembers items of information, with the ultimate goal of better understanding these processes and developing a more informed cure for Alzheimer's.

Dr. Huentelman, an Associate Professor in TGen's Neurogenomics Division and the lead researcher of the our platform.org project, encourages people to join the platform and participate in a 10-minute, anonymous test. With nearly 28,000 volunteers already taking the test, TGen aims to gather results from as many as 1 million participants.

Alzheimer's disease is a significant socioeconomic issue, affecting over 5 million Americans, making it the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S., and costing the nation more than $200 billion to treat annually. TGen's research is based on translational research, which aims to rapidly move research towards patient benefit.

The our platform.org project uses statistical analysis of the data gathered from the test, along with genetic testing, to identify factors associated with brain performance. The data will be used to support large-scale data sharing and analysis to enhance research community efforts toward finding effective treatments.

TGen's work involves unraveling the genetic components of both common and rare complex diseases in adults and children. The institute collaborates with scientists and medical professionals worldwide to contribute to patient care through the efficiency and effectiveness of the translational process.

The our platform.org project has been recognised as a finalist in the CLASSY Awards, the largest social impact awards in the U.S. The 5th CLASSY Awards will be held on May 3, 2014, at the Marriott Marquis in San Diego. The CLASSY Awards is an annual event that recognises champions of social progress and encourages discussions about social problems and solutions.

Join the our platform.org project today and be a part of the solution in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. Together, we can make a difference.

  1. The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is using neurogenomics to explore mental health issues, particularly Alzheimer's disease, as part of their mission to better understand brain processes and develop cures.
  2. TGen's online research project, our platform.org, encourages participants to take an anonymous 10-minute test to contribute data for the study of neurological disorders, with the goal of reaching 1 million participants.
  3. CBD, a significant area of interest in health and wellness, may not be directly related to TGen's Alzheimer's research, but the institute collaborates with scientists worldwide to unravel the genetic components of various medical conditions.
  4. TGen's our platform.org project has been recognized as a finalist in the CLASSY Awards, an annual event that honors champions of social progress, and showcases innovative solutions for problems such as aging and mental health.
