Spotlight on Vietnam's advancements in safeguarding religious freedom and belief rights in exhibition

In the heart of Da Nang, at Hoi An ward, an exhibition titled "Ethnicity – Faith and Heritage" is currently running until August 22. This exhibition, not just a collection of images, serves as a voice affirming the right to exist, to express one's identity, and to live true to one's beliefs.

The exhibition focuses on promoting and protecting human rights, particularly freedom of belief and religion, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of ethnic minority communities in Vietnam. It reflects Vietnam's dedication to protecting religious freedom, ethnic minority rights, cultural heritage, and human dignity as critical components of its social and national identity.

Highlights of the exhibition include the vibrant depictions of major religious festivals, traditional customs, and spiritual life of various ethnic groups. Visitors can witness the Vesak Ceremony, Dieu Tri Palace Banquet, Mother Goddess worship (Tam Phu), traditional Thai Xoe dancing, Ghe Ngo boat racing, and Red Dao weddings. These vivid photographic works stand as a testament to the Vietnamese Party and State's consistent and human-centered policies in the protection of religious freedom and equitable development for ethnic minorities.

Besides showcasing cultural richness, the exhibition aims to raise public awareness about human rights, foster national unity, and promote Vietnam's image of peace, religious freedom, and cultural diversity both domestically and internationally. Officials at the event highlighted Vietnam’s balanced and comprehensive approach to human rights, which includes civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, with special attention to ensuring equality and development for ethnic minority regions—embodying the principle of "no one left behind".

Vietnam's commitment to human rights is evident in its continued role as a proactive and responsible member of the UN Human Rights Council. During its 2023-2025 term, the country has demonstrated this through its actions, and it has officially submitted its candidacy for re-election to the UN Human Rights Council for the tenure of 2026-2028.

Colonel Nguyễn Hoa Chi, Vice Director of the Department of External Relations under the Ministry of Public Security, spoke at the event, emphasizing Vietnam's focus on balancing civil and political rights with economic, social, cultural, and environmental rights. The Government of Vietnam consistently respects and protects citizens' right to freedom of religion and belief, a fact that is evident in the peaceful aspirations and spirit of great national solidarity reflected in the exhibition.

In sum, the "Ethnicity – Faith and Heritage" exhibition is more than just a celebration of Vietnam's cultural richness; it is a powerful statement of the country's commitment to human rights, cultural diversity, and social inclusion. It underscores the right to exist, express one's identity, and live true to one's beliefs, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking to understand the heart and soul of Vietnam's multi-ethnic society.
