Record-breaking Union: Eight Decades of Matrimony and Counting

In the capital city of Quito, Ecuador, one half of the world's longest-married couple, as recognized by Guinness World Records, has passed away, according to REN TV and Almaty.tv. Julio Cesar Mora Tapia, aged 110, and his wife Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros Reyes, 104, set the world record in August 2020 for their extraordinary union spanning 79 years. The couple's collective age surpassed 214 years before Mora Tapia's demise, which occurred late one evening in the city.

Although no official designation of the world's longest marriage was made for the couple in August 2020, records indicate that the longest union, while not recognized by Guinness, pertained to Karam and Kartari Chand, who were joined in matrimony for 90 years. Previous records of recognized marriages have lasted around 80 years, such as the union of Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Hartley and Drusilla Orlena (née Keith) Hartley, who were wed for 80 years and 32 days.

While the precise age combination of the August 2020 record-holders is not specified, other notable couples with long-standing unions, like Warren Leslie MacQuarrie and Clara Wilma MacQuarrie, who were married for nearly 80 years in August 2020, may serve as comparisons. Assuming they were aged in their mid-90s to early 100s at that time, their combined age would have been approximately 190 years. Such figures, however, remain speculative and lack confirmed data from August 2020.
