Paderborn Police Crack Down on Road Safety During "Kinder im Blick" Action

On Tuesday, June 3rd, 2023, the Paderborn Police participated in the cross-border traffic safety action "sicher.mobil.leben," with a focus on child safety and road user sensitization. This annual event, which has been held since 2018 by police forces across the federal states, aimed to increase awareness and enforcement for child pedestrian safety and car safety seats.

During the action, the officers controlled 24 locations, particularly at schools, kindergartens, and on the way there. Their efforts resulted in the detection of 112 offenses, including 88 speeding offenses. Notably, a care service vehicle was measured at 70 km/h instead of the permitted 30 km/h at a Hövelhofer school, leading to a one-month driving ban for the driver. An Opel driver traveling at 66 km/h at the same location also faces a similar penalty.

In addition to speeding violations, three offenses against cyclists were recorded, and nine other offenses were logged. Nine times, vehicle drivers or passengers were found not wearing seat belts, and three times, cyclists or car drivers were caught using their phones while driving.

The traffic safety consultation of the Paderborn police was also actively involved in the traffic safety action, conducting six events to promote road safety. For press inquiries, the Paderborn Police Headquarters can be contacted at 05251 306-1313 or [email protected].

The motto for this year's action was "Kinder im Blick," emphasizing the importance of protecting children in road traffic. The Paderborn Police, along with other authorities, continue their efforts to ensure the safety of all road users, especially children, in the district.

Science can play a significant role in developing innovative solutions for health-and-wellness, such as designing safer fitness-and-exercise equipment for children, considering the increased awareness towards child road safety following the "Kinder im Blick" action. Health-and-wellness experts could collaborate with fitness specialists to create products that promote physical activity among children while ensuring their safety on the roads.
