Proposal for a Directive on Commission's Request Regarding a New Legislative Measure

The federal government in Germany is gearing up to provide more vaccines for vaccination centers and general practitioners, as all vaccination priorities are set to be lifted by June 7th. This is due to the integration of additional physician groups, including occupational physicians, into the vaccination campaign.

Rhineland-Palatinate Minister President Malu Dreyer (SPD) has been vocal about the need for a significant increase in vaccine deliveries. She emphasises that the pandemic can only be overcome if the states are provided with sufficient vaccine. Dreyer has also demanded "more transparency and reliability" in the quantitative and fair distribution of vaccine per capita per federal state.

In response to these demands, the responsibility for the additional vaccine deliveries needed for vaccination centers and general practitioners lies with the Federal Ministry of Health (Bundesministerium für Gesundheit) in Germany.

In a bid to address these concerns, the Minister Presidents will hold a vaccination summit with the Federal Chancellor next week. The aim is to discuss the current situation and find solutions to ensure a steady supply of vaccines and a fair distribution across the country.
