Pope Leo XIV Calls for 'Healthy Secularism' in New Address

Pope Leo XIV, in a recent address at the Vatican, emphasized the importance of 'healthy secularism' and thanked a working group for their efforts in promoting dialogue and respect among people. The Pope stressed the need for a balance between religion and politics, drawing inspiration from historical figures.

The Pope expressed the need for individuals who can appreciate religion while maintaining a clear separation from politics. He praised scholars like Prof. Dr. Adrian Loretan, who specializes in church and state law, and informed church representatives for their understanding of this concept. These individuals, along with certain policymakers, contribute to the dialogue on religion and secularism.

Pope Leo XIV also stressed the importance of promoting dialogue between cultures and religions, particularly for Christian politicos. He highlighted the personal and social value of religion, enhancing interpersonal relationships and community living. He cited historical figures such as Robert Schuman, Konrad Adenauer, and Alcide De Gasperi as examples of this balance between religion and politics.

During a meeting with the 'Working Group on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue' on Monday, Pope Leo XIV reiterated the need for a balanced approach to religion and politics. He thanked the working group for their efforts in promoting dialogue and respect, urging all to remain rooted in Gospel values while being open to dialogue with those from other backgrounds.
