Pharmacy services expand at Sam's Club, offering pet insurance discounts for customers.
Sam's Club Launches Integrated Pet Insurance and Pharmacy Program
Sam's Club, a leading membership warehouse club, has partnered exclusively with Spot Pet Insurance to introduce an innovative integrated pharmacy program and discounted pet insurance plans for its members.
The program, designed with real-life scenarios in mind, aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of millions of families by easing the financial burden associated with pet care, particularly for unexpected emergencies that can exceed $1,000.
Discounted Insurance Plans and Medication Savings
Sam's Club members can now enjoy up to a 15% discount on Spot Pet Insurance plans, along with an additional 10% multi-pet discount for insuring multiple pets after the first one. This partnership offers access to over 110 pet medications available at Sam's Club pharmacies for $80 or less, without the usual need to submit reimbursement forms to insurance providers.
Simplified Process and Additional Perks
Unlike traditional pet insurance where owners are reimbursed after submitting receipts, the program offers upfront price transparency and no paperwork for prescriptions covered under the plan. Members also benefit from free flea, tick, and heartworm preventative medications for cats and heartworm prevention for dogs at no out-of-pocket cost as part of the pharmacy benefits.
Comprehensive Coverage Options
Spot Pet Insurance offers flexible plans with unlimited annual coverage options, several reimbursement levels (70%-90%), and deductible choices starting as low as $100, making it adaptable to varying pet health needs.
Expanding Access to Affordable Care
The new program is available in all club locations and is targeted towards Sam's Club members who own pets, many of whom may not currently be insured based on national pet insurance statistics.
Improving Member Experience
This initiative is part of Sam's Club's broader efforts to improve the member experience, including simpler healthcare and trusted pharmacy support within the clubs. The program is an extension of Sam's Club's in-club medication dispensing service, eliminating the need for extra vet visits for medication dispensing.
Recognition and Expansion
Walmart Inc., the parent company of Sam's Club, operates 600 clubs in the United States and Puerto Rico. Walmart U.S. has been ranked No. 1 on Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America. Sam's Club is ranked No. 8 on the same list.
Meanwhile, other retailers such as Marc's and Meijer are also expanding their efforts to address the health care needs of rural and senior residents by partnering with health platforms to expand accessibility to care and medication. Giant Eagle is taking over Rite Aid prescriptions in Pennsylvania and Ohio from the drug store chain's 78 locations.
Amazon is also updating its pharmacy approach to provide simpler medication management for users and their loved ones.
