Outrage Over Euthanized Dogs in Uralsk: City's Sterilization Program Under Scrutiny

A video of dead dogs at a veterinary station in Uralsk, Kazakhstan, has sparked outrage among animal rights activists. The incident has led to ongoing investigations into why the veterinarians euthanized the dogs instead of following the city's sterilization program.

The city of Uralsk has allocated over 28 million tenge for capturing and sterilizing nearly 2,500 dogs this year. However, over 200 dogs have been euthanized so far, with around 300 sterilized. Last year, over 200 dogs were also euthanized due to overpopulation and control measures, while 140 dogs were sterilized.

After sterilization, the dogs are supposed to be kept in a shelter for a week before being released back into the wild. However, activists believe that the dogs in the recent video were not part of the sterilization program and should have been caught legally. Volunteers recorded the dogs in a truck, raising concerns about their treatment. Aggressive dogs are typically euthanized on the spot if they pose a threat to people, but the city's sterilization program aims to reduce the stray animal population humanely.

The city's sterilization program has not shown immediate results, with up to a thousand people in the region suffering from animal bites each year. Wild animals, potentially carrying rabies, pose a risk to the public. Activists argue that the euthanization of the dogs in the video was not in line with the city's stated policies and are calling for a thorough investigation.

The euthanization of the dogs in Uralsk has raised serious concerns among animal rights activists. Investigations are ongoing to determine why the veterinarians deviated from the city's sterilization program. The city has been allocated significant funds for capturing and sterilizing dogs, and it is crucial that these funds are used effectively to reduce the stray animal population humanely and safely for both the animals and the public.
