Nutrition Specialist Pisareva outlines strategies to combat post-lunch drowsiness
Eating Sweet and Carb-Heavy Foods Can Leave You Feeling SYPHY, According to Dietologist Dr. Irina Pisareva.
Indulging in those mouth-watering sweets or carbs might taste delightful, but guess what? You're probably going to spend a good chunk of your energy on digestion, and spend the rest of the afternoon feeling HOOKED UP, as Dr. Irina Pisareva, a dietician, revealed in a recent interview.
Overeating these tasty treats can cause your body to pump out insulin and hormones, leaving you feeling wiped out, explained Dr. Pisareva. It's like a REV-HEAD on overdrive, burning up your fuel.
"Once you chow down on carbs, insulin levels go through the roof, and that's accompanied by an increase in serotonin synthesis," said Dr. Pisareva. "Boom! We've scarfed down carbs, our mood's improved, we feel great, and suddenly we crave a SIESTA or a good nap."
To stay energetic, it's important to watch what you eat, the dietician emphasized. Opting for fatty and carb-loaded foods can leave many folks feeling TOASTED and ready for a snooze after lunch.
Had a big, yummy meal and feeling DOOZY afterwards? It might have something to do with HYPERLYCEMIA, a condition characterized by excessive glucose in the blood, as Dr. Pisareva pointed out. To steer clear of this, she suggested incorporating more light protein dishes and vegetables into your diet.
But don't despair if you've already overindulged—there's a few things you can do to get your mojo back. "If you've tackled a mighty meal and have digestive issues, don't hit the hay right away. Instead, take a USELESS WALK for 10 minutes, chug some water, or grab a cup of SOOTHIN' GREEN TEA. Some people also find breathing exercises beneficial in boosting their energy levels and keeping them awake," Sputnik radio quoted Dr. Pisareva.

A healthy sleep might be difficult to achieve after consuming sweet and carb-heavy foods, as they can lead to hyperglycemia and leave one feeling dozy. To maintain a healthy diet, it's essential to consider the impact of insulin release and serotonin synthesis, striving for lighter protein dishes and vegetables instead of fatty, carb-loaded options. If you overindulge, taking a useless walk, chugging water, or drinking soothing green tea can help boost your energy levels and combat digestive issues.
