Mediterranean receives a shipment of cherries from California's protective cover
Rosselkhoznadzor specialists at the Primorsky office have identified the California shield scale in a 700-kilogram batch of imported cherries from Uzbekistan. During phytosanitary inspections at the airport, inspectors obtained samples for laboratory analysis, which confirmed the presence of the pest.
Contrary to expectations, the shipment was permitted entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) under regulations that allow the importation and movement of fruits infected with false scale insects and scale insects, provided certain conditions are met.
Although the fruits pose no threat to human health, they can be safely consumed after thorough washing. Stipulations regarding these conditions within the EAEU framework generally entail phytosanitary certificates from the exporting nation, restrictions on the movement of infected goods, quarantine and destructive measures, and special permits for internal movement if authorized. For precise and up-to-date regulatory requirements, consult the official EAEU phytosanitary regulations or national plant protection authorities.
