New Partnership to Combat COVID-19:

Let's dive into the latest collaborative effort in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic! Sterling Medical Devices, a top-tier medical device innovator, has teamed up with Cedars-Sinai and Aytu BioScience to develop the Healight Platform Technology. This exciting project could potentially save the lives of critically ill COVID-19 patients and those battling other infections.

Mark Pimentel, M.D., and the Medically Associated Science and Technology (MAST) program at Cedars-Sinai, have been working on the Healight Platform since 2016. Recently, they enlisted Sterling Medical Devices to help create a novel endotracheal catheter emitting ultraviolet UV-A light, targeting patients on ventilators.

Dan Sterling, President of Sterling Medical Devices, shared his enthusiasm: "We're amped up to team up with the brainiacs at Cedars-Sinai and Aytu BioScience on an expedited timeline to speed up this potential life-saving treatment against COVID-19."

Josh Disbrow, CEO of Aytu BioScience, echoed his excitement: "The Aytu squad is stoked to link up with Sterling Medical Devices on this vital project aimed at aiding in the COVID-19 battle. Sterling boasts a phenomenal track record as a go-to medical device development powerhouse with over 21 years of experience and involvement in over 1,100 projects, all of which received FDA approval upon submission."

Preliminary findings at Cedars-Sinai show that the Healight Platform Technology possesses potent antiviral and antibacterial properties, hinting at its potential to eradicate a broad spectrum of viruses and bacteria. However, the technology has yet to be tested on patients. Once the catheter is complete, the Healight will transition to pilot-scale manufacturing for clinical testing at Cedars-Sinai.

The trio is currently working hand-in-glove with the FDA to devise an expedited regulatory process, aiming for near-term human use of the Healight Platform Technology to treat critically ill, intubated COVID-19 patients.
