Kickstarting the new year, Tomsk's ophthalmology reference center has officially opened its doors at the Tomsk Regional Clinical Hospital (TORCB). The center, equipped with top-notch medical equipment, has been in the pipeline for quite some time, with the regional budget allocating over 40 million rubles for its establishment in 2023. This summer, an additional investment of approximately 28 million rubles is planned for the purchase of additional machinery. These ambitious plans were revealed by theTomsk region press service on Tuesday.
Previously, there were rumors of the Tomsk region exploring the possibility of launching specialized, high-tech medical centers in the region. Particularly, centers for pulmonology, endocrinology, and ophthalmology were under consideration. The ophthalmology center was slated for a 2025 launch at TORCB.
"(On Tuesday), Tomsk region Governor Vladimir Mazur unveiled the ophthalmology reference center at TORCB. The center boasts state-of-the-art medical equipment: automated projectors, tonometry devices, autorefractometry devices, and ophthalmological lasers," reads the statement.
It's noteworthy that the center is also furnished with specialized ultrasound and tomography equipment, as well as surgical operation machinery. This decision to establish the center was made in 2023 in response to the rising incidence of eye-related ailments among Tomsk residents. In 2024, the regional budget allocated 40.8 million rubles for the center's equipment. Later this year, an additional 28 million rubles will be invested for additional machinery.
"We've outfitted this center with cutting-edge equipment of expert-level quality. Our Siberian State Medical University is training top-notch ophthalmologists. Consequently, residents of the region now have access to high-quality eye disease diagnosis and prompt treatment," the governor said, quoted in the statement.
It's also worth mentioning that, according to the center's director, Sergey Malikov, specialists can currently diagnose patients with various eye-related pathologies, conduct complex surgeries on the eyeball for glaucoma and cataract patients. Additionally, patients can receive referrals for specialized treatment.
Regrettably, search results did not reveal any specific details about planned specialized high-tech medical centers in the Tomsk region, such as centers for pulmonology and endocrinology.
