Bengaluru Witnesses Covid-19 Death, 38 Cases in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Karnataka - An 84-year-old individual with severe comorbidities passed away in Bengaluru on May 17, and his posthumous Covid-19 test results returned positive on Saturday, as stated by health officials. The patient, who had been admitted to a private hospital in Whitefield on May 13, had three distinct health conditions.

Upon this individual's death, tests conducted during their lifetime confirmed Covid-19 positivity. As per the health department, the state reported 38 Covid-19 cases, with 32 cases in Bengaluru.

Earlier on Saturday, Karnataka's Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao encouraged the public to remain calm and carry on with their regular activities amid a recent surge in Covid cases across the state. He emphasized that there are currently no Covid-19-related restrictions, allowing individuals to move freely.

Addressing reporters, Senator Rao reminded the media to accurately represent the situation and avoid overemphasizing the severity of the Covid-19 disease, which has been a global pandemic for five years. He also expressed reassurance about the state government's preparedness to deal with the virus and prevent its spread.

The Health Minister underscored the possibility of a sub-category of Coronavirus in Southeast Asian countries, such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia, which may be responsible for the recent spike in cases in those regions. He explained that this sub-category, if confirmed, could have roots in JN.1, the responsible strain, which is becoming increasingly prevalent in those countries. Nevertheless, neither panic nor unusual precautions are necessitated in these areas, as reported by the Ministry.
