In the bustling city of Hamm, the public prosecutor's office plays a vital role in maintaining justice and upholding the law. According to the latest data, there are a total of 674 public prosecutors active in the ten public prosecutor's offices within the district. This figure includes 394 female and 280 male public prosecutors.

One of the key areas witnessing a significant increase is state protection and politically motivated crimes. This trend is reflected in the General Prosecutor's Office in Hamm, where senior public prosecutors are working diligently to address these issues. Supporting these senior public prosecutors are four female and two male public prosecutors.

The Higher Regional Court (OLG) of Hamm, the largest in Germany, is responsible for the administration of justice for approximately nine million people. In 2024, a total of 578,852 investigation proceedings were conducted in the OLG Hamm district.

International requests are gaining in importance in the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Hamm. The number of requests for extradition or legal assistance in investigations has seen a substantial increase, rising from 341 to 436. This rise in international cooperation highlights the growing interconnectedness of legal systems across the globe.

The OLG Hamm has taken on additional responsibilities since July 1, 2025. These new responsibilities include disputes in free professions in second instance, consumer protection law, renewable energy, supply law, dangerous act offenses, environmental liability, questions related to the Pharmaceuticals Act, and all agricultural matters exclusively in second instance statewide.

The overall number of appeals against decisions by courts or public prosecutors has remained largely stable over the past three years, with 1229 cases in 2024. However, there has been a significant decrease in proceedings for narcotic offenses and the distribution of pornographic materials.

The number of complaints against dismissals has decreased slightly, with 2705 such complaints recorded in 2024, compared to 2786 in the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of appeals in administrative offenses, such as speeding or parking violations, has significantly decreased, with 947 cases recorded in 2024, around 300 fewer than the previous year. Other requests, such as those for cooperation in criminal proceedings, also increased slightly, from 376 to 388 cases.

Despite extensive research, no up-to-date or detailed information on the current distribution or recent hiring trends of public prosecutors within the OLG Hamm district or the General Prosecutor's Office in Hamm could be found. For authoritative information, direct inquiries to the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia or the General Prosecutor’s Office in Hamm would be necessary.
