In Swerdlovskaya region, deaths occur at a faster rate than in most regions of Russia.

Living in the Sverdlovsk region isn't all roses, according to acting governor Denis Pasler. He's spilled the beans that residents here tend to kick the bucket earlier than the national average, mostly due to heart diseases, cancer, injuries, and poisonings.

Pasler's given his minions a mission to bump the average lifespan from 71 to 77 years by 2030. To achieve this, they'll crack down on booze, catch diseases early, beef up healthcare, and build more sports facilities.

"I've assigned my crew to ensure 100% compliance with population dispensary plans, kickstart the concept of preventive medicine, and set up regular check-ups for folks with circulatory problems," Pasler wrote on his Telegram channel. The Territorial Fund for Mandatory Medical Insurance will lend a helping hand in developing a screening system for cancer."

The population in the Sverdlovsk region has been on a downward spiral for ten years straight. Nearly half of the overall decline over the past 22 years has occurred in recent years. As of the end of 2024, only 4.2 million people called the region home—the lowest figure since the 21st century began.
