Hospice Construction Advancement - Inpatient Hospice in Herford is under development
Herford, Germany, is set to welcome a new addition to its healthcare services. Hospiz Herford gGmbH, a non-profit organization, is establishing a stationary hospice, marking the first of its kind in the district.
The building, located at Unter den Linden 41, was previously a day clinic. It was acquired by the foundation in September 2021 and is now undergoing renovation and rebuilding, adhering to preservation guidelines due to its listed status. An annex is also being built, which will house guest rooms, communal areas, and a roof terrace.
The hospice, expected to be operational by summer 2026, will offer around 10 guest rooms. The interior design will be bright, cozy, and homelike, avoiding the hospital atmosphere often associated with such facilities.
Hospiz Herford gGmbH is not planning to offer competition to outpatient hospice services and facilities but aims for close cooperation. They are establishing partnerships regarding general practitioner and emergency care for their guests. Additionally, they are working towards a harmonious relationship with existing outpatient services in the Herford district.
The construction costs for the stationary hospice are being financed by the 'Future in the Wittekindskreis' foundation, which was established by the Herford district. Sparkasse Herford is also providing a subsidy for the project.
Donations are still needed for the hospice, and the funds will be used for both the planned inpatient hospice and outpatient services in the Herford district. Donations can be made to the foundation with the purpose 'Contribution - Foundation Fund 'Hospice and Palliative Care in the Herford District'' (IBAN: DE83 4945 0120 0000 0275 24, Sparkasse Herford). Donations can also be made directly to the hospice (IBAN DE9349450120000029090, Sparkasse Herford). Sparkasse Herford has pointed out a substitute account for donations to the stationary hospice in Herford.
The operator of the hospice, Hospiz Herford gGmbH, is a joint subsidiary of the Diakonisches Werk in the Vlotho church district and the Herford church district. The head of house and the position of nursing director are already competently filled at Hospiz Herford gGmbH. Kerstin Hensel, managing director of the parent company, the Diakonisches Werk in the Vlotho church district, has visited the construction site.
As the construction progresses, the community looks forward to the opening of the hospice, which will provide much-needed support for those in need of palliative care in the Herford district.
