In this article, we'll break down the health benefits available for retirees at Oberlin College, explaining the different plans and their coverage.

Oberlin College offers a Comprehensive Medical Benefits transitional plan (Comp. Plan) for retirees. However, it's essential to note that this plan does not provide prescription coverage. If you retire before age 65, you'll be enrolled in the CDHP with HRA plan, which includes prescription, mental, and substance abuse coverage.

For retirees who reach the age of 65 and are eligible for Medicare, a different scenario applies. You will not be enrolled in the CDHP with HRA plan but will have the option to enroll in the Medical Mutual Medicare Advantage Plan with SilverScript, which does provide prescription coverage.

It's crucial to remember that if you retire at age 65 or become eligible for Medicare at the time of retirement, you must enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B. The covered spouse/partner must also do the same when eligible. A copy of the Medicare card should be forwarded to Human Resources to be credited with the reduced premium rate for those on Medicare.

Both the retiree and the covered spouse/partner's Medicare enrollment are required for the reduced premium rate. Moreover, if you are on the Comp. Plan, Medicare becomes the primary insurer, and Oberlin College provides secondary coverage through an existing health carrier.

The Comp. Plan is not the same as the Medicare Advantage Plan with SilverScript. It's also important to note that the Comp. Plan does not apply to everyone. If you're unsure whether you qualify, please refer to the documents provided below.

For cost information under the health, dental, and vision plans, please review the applicable section under Retirement. If you have any questions or need further details, please don't hesitate to contact Human Resources.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that the application for the Comp. Plan requires submission through the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). If you have any questions about the application process, we recommend reaching out to CMS directly.
