Breaking News: Shooting at CDC and Emory University Campuses in Atlanta

A tragic incident unfolded near the adjoining campuses of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The shooting, which took place on Friday, has claimed the lives of a police officer and the suspected gunman. No civilians are believed to have been injured.

The gunman was found on the second floor of a building across the street from the CDC and died at the scene. Authorities say there was no ongoing threat after the attack, but CDC employees were ordered to work from home while a security assessment was conducted. Emory University lifted the shelter-in-place order on campus, but people are asked to avoid the area.

The suspected gunman was heavily armed with multiple firearms and ammunition. According to law enforcement sources and family members, the shooter believed that the COVID-19 vaccine caused his illness and mental health issues. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

Governor Brian Kemp praised the efforts of first responders, while Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr expressed horror over the incident and prayed for the safety of the entire campus community at Emory University. The Kemp family, who is mourning the loss of Officer David Rose, who received gunfire during the shooting, expressed their gratitude towards all those who answered the call to action during the recent shootings.

The area where the institutions are located is hard to access and notoriously traffic-choked. Few cars were in evidence around the institutions on Friday. A white car with an open truck was part of the crime scene and is being searched. Authorities recovered three other firearms at the scene.

This incident marks the second time this week that deranged criminals have targeted innocent Georgians. Twice this week, the peace of the state has been disrupted by senseless violence. The Atlanta police department is working diligently to ensure the safety of the community and to bring those responsible to justice.
