Almaty Fights Coronavirus: Strict Measures Reinstated Amid Global Surge
With the worldwide coronavirus crisis worsening, Almaty, under the orders of Mayor Bакытжан Сагинтаев, has beefed up its defenses against the deadly virus, reinstating mask mandates and self-isolation protocols, as reported by Almaty.tv.
On a global scale, several countries are bolstering their defenses against COVID-19. For instance, France has re-implemented a countrywide lockdown, starting October 30, due to the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases.
A curfew is imminent in Paris. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has mandated a three-day quarantine for all travelers arriving from other states. In South Korea, authorities have stepped up anti-virus measures such as enforcing mask-wearing due to a surging number of COVID-19 cases within the country.
Amidst the surge in COVID-19 cases across the CIS region, Belarus State University has implemented a mandatory mask mandate, while Kyrgyzstan's students are going on vacation. Geneva, the Swiss capital, has imposed a month-long enhanced lockdown to curb the spread of new infections. Countries like Estonia and Finland have tightened their anti-coronavirus measures, with Stockholm's municipal museums closing and additional restrictions placed on gyms and swimming pools.
In the European Union, strict lockdown restrictions are being reintroduced in several countries. During an online interview with the regional communication service, the chief physician of City Polyclinic No. 8, Fariida Agibayeva, shared essential recommendations for COVID-19 prevention with Almaty residents.
"We are currently observing a spike in COVID-19 cases. In our clinic, there's been a 1.5% increase since early October. Therefore, we advise city residents to stay at home and seek medical attention if they develop a fever," said the chief physician.
The Almaty polyclinic's medical staff is well-stocked with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), ensuring the clinic remains prepared for the ongoing battle against the virus. The Almaty Akimat has appealed to residents and visitors alike to strictly adhere to sanitary and epidemiological requirements to safeguard their health and that of those around them. Elderly individuals, in particular, are urged to stay at home if possible. All city residents are advised to avoid crowded areas, maintain social distancing, and follow mask guidelines.
Fariida Agibayeva reiterated several key recommendations to Almaty residents:
- Maintain physical distancing.
- Frequently wash hands and use disposable tissues outside the home.
- Properly ventilate rooms.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the elbow.
- Wear a medical mask and long-sleeved outerwear when leaving home. Carefully remove the mask and gloves upon returning home, place them in a sealed bag, and dispose of them in the trash. Then, wash or disinfect your hands.
- Maintain a social distance of at least 1.5 meters.
"Mobile groups are actively enforcing quarantine rules, including mask-wearing, in the city. Violators are reported to district polyclinics and face appropriate penalties," emphasized the chief doctor. It was noted that during monitoring activities on October 2, 2020, violations were found at 3 facilities.
In the past, violations have been reported in facilities within the Nauryzbai District. Adhering to mask mandates and following health guidelines is crucial in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus. Stay safe, Almaty!
In the midst of the escalating COVID-19 cases, it's essential for individuals to prioritize their health and wellness. City residents in Almaty are urged to adhere to mask mandates and maintain social distancing for their safety and that of others. To promote workplace-wellness, it's recommended to follow guidelines for fitness-and-exercise, mental-health, and health-and-wellness at home, such as covering coughs and sneezes, wearing masks, and maintaining a 1.5-meter distance. By doing so, people can play a significant role in the battle against the coronavirus.
