In a significant development, Spain has pledged its support to the International Court of Justice (ICC) in investigating alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israeli authorities in Gaza. This announcement marks a significant step in international efforts to address the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territory.

The Spanish government, led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, has announced its intention to remove over 53,000 illegal holiday apartments from online platforms to alleviate housing shortages for young people and families. However, the focus of the international community remains on Spain's decision to probe 'human rights violations in Gaza' to assist the ICC.

According to reports, a Spanish police report has recorded acts that could constitute crimes against the international community, allegedly perpetrated by the Israeli army in Gaza. This revelation has added fuel to the fire, with the ICC issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Spain has also joined a case before the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza. The Spanish top prosecutor, Alvaro Garcia Ortiz, has issued a decree to create an investigative team to gather evidence of violations of international human rights law in Gaza. All evidence, direct or indirect, that can be gathered in Spain on crimes committed in Gaza must be included for potential use in the ICC case.

The World Health Organization chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has warned that Israel's ground offensive in northern Gaza had left hospitals 'on the brink of collapse.' Gaza City's Al-Shifa Hospital received the bodies of 20 people killed in Israeli strikes since midnight. Tedros also stated that the military incursion and evacuation orders in northern Gaza are causing new waves of displacement.

The escalating violence has also blocked access and prevented the WHO from delivering lifesaving supplies, further exacerbating the situation. More than 60 people had been killed by Israeli fire on Wednesday, according to Gaza's civil defense agency.

Spain's announcement is another step to lead international action over the conflict, as it is a virulent critic of the Israeli offensive in the Palestinian territory. The investigative team's mission is to make evidence available to the competent body, fulfilling Spain's obligations regarding international cooperation and human rights.

As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the international community will be watching Spain's efforts closely. The creation of the investigative team and Spain's decision to join the case before the ICC are significant steps towards holding those responsible for alleged war crimes accountable.
