The kits can be collected daily, no appointment necessary, from their Manchester office between 7:30 am and 5 pm. This drive aims to combat radon, the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, responsible for 21,000 deaths nationwide each year.
Radon, a colorless, odorless gas, can infiltrate homes through cracks, drains, and other openings. It's a serious health hazard, as emphasized by local resident Jill Carpenter who lost her father to lung cancer at age 59. To raise awareness and encourage testing, Delaware County Public Health is distributing free kits on a first-come, first-served basis until Wednesday.
