Protective Measures Implemented for Medics in Belgorod Region Amid Drone Threat
Due to the ongoing military conflict in the Belgorod region, doctors and medical personnel are being equipped with bulletproof vests and helmets to protect them from potential drone attacks and other forms of violence. This measure is a direct response to the increasing use of kamikaze drones that target vehicles carrying personnel, including journalists and presumably medical workers, in conflict zones.
To further safeguard the safety of healthcare workers in the region, several protective measures have been implemented. These include:
- The issuance of bulletproof vests and helmets to doctors and medical staff to protect them from shrapnel, gunfire, and drone-related explosions.
- Increased vigilance and the deployment of counter-drone technologies to mitigate the risk of drone attacks against civilian and medical vehicles or sites in the region.
- Implementation of protocols to enhance the safety of medical convoys and facilities under threat, consistent with wartime protection of humanitarian workers.
In addition to these measures, escorts by 'Orlan' and 'BARS-Belgorod' fighters are also being used to ensure the safety of medics. Furthermore, 11 ambulances in the border areas of the Belgorod region have been equipped with special constructions called "mangals" to protect against drone attacks.
The need for these protective measures arises from the increased risk of potential drone attacks in border areas. The regional head, Gladkov, has reported a deteriorating situation in the Belgorod region daily. As a result, these measures are only being used in border municipalities where the risk of attacks is highest.
Despite the challenges posed by heavy traffic, implementing such measures in Belgorod itself is impossible. However, the safety of medics in the Belgorod region remains a priority, and efforts are being made to ensure their protection in this hostile security environment driven by drone warfare tactics and the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
