In the heart of Germany, the life-saving crew of the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) swings into action time and time again, responding to a multitude of incidents across Saxony. Last year, they stepped up to the plate for a grand total of 710 people, rolling out the lifesaver red carpet in scenarios ranging from rescue missions to first aid, wound care, and search and rescue missions for the missing. A staggering 33 lives were saved thanks to their swift actions. The tireless efforts of these volunteer lifeguards culminated in a colossal 18,700 hours dedicated to the wellbeing of the Saxon community. With an impressive force of 510 active lifeguards, the Free State is never wanting for a helping hand.

In the headlines of recent years, it's a grim reality that bathing accidents have claimed the lives of 16 individuals in the Free State during '24, compared to 15 in '23. The majority of these tragedies unfolded in open waters, with five lives lost in rivers and six in lakes. There was even a casualty in a swimming pool, but with only one exception, the victims were all aged 50 or above. Like '23, there were no fatalities among those under 30.

For the most current insights on trends in bathing accidents and the DLRG's ongoing mission in Saxony, it's recommended to keep a close eye on local news sources or consult the DLRG's official communiques.
