EMERCOM Divers Master Cold-Water Skills in Harsh Winter Drills
Russian Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM) rescuers recently conducted diving exercises in the frigid waters of Malaya Lagernaya Bay, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The drills, held in challenging winter conditions, tested the divers' skills and equipment in cold temperatures and ice risks.
The exercises, held near the bay, involved various tasks to simulate real-life scenarios. Divers, equipped with 45-50 kilogram gear, practiced signaling between working and support divers. Working divers ventured underwater, while support divers remained on shore, connected by a signal line. Safety divers stood by for emergencies.
The rescuers honed their skills in zero visibility searches, underwater navigation, and radio communication tests. They also practiced handling specific challenges like ice rescues, body recovery, and freeing ship propellers. EMERCOM divers are trained to dive up to 60 meters, extending to 80 meters in emergency situations.
The successful completion of these exercises demonstrates the high level of training and preparedness of EMERCOM divers. Their ability to operate effectively in harsh winter conditions ensures they are ready to respond to any underwater emergency in the region.
