Dusseldorf law enforcement's scrutiny of alcohol and narcotics in vehicle movements yields concerning findings

On Thursday, a drug and alcohol control operation on Cologne Street saw over 40 officers in action, checking a total of 114 vehicles. The operation, which lasted for over 4 hours from 11 am to 3 pm, resulted in a significant number of drivers being prohibited from driving.

In total, driving was prohibited in 23 cases due to intoxication, which is approximately a quarter of the 91 vehicles checked. Alcohol remained the most common finding, followed by marijuana and amphetamines.

The operation involved standardized field sobriety tests to initially assess impairment, and urine drug testing as the standard method for roadside screening for substances such as amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana (THC), methamphetamines, PCP, and opioids.

One vehicle with red dealer plates was part of the control results, and the driver admitted to misuse. The vehicle was towed from the control point at the driver's request. Another violation was noted due to an operating ban on the tow truck.

Two vehicles were found to have lapsed insurance, and their license plates were seized on the spot. In addition, a fake HU sticker (yellow) was discovered during the operation, and one vehicle was found with a fake inspection sticker.

The police intend to follow up with similar actions based on the alarming balance of prohibited vehicles. It should be noted that no new information about the outcome of the blood tests from earlier was provided, nor was there any information about the fate of the seized vehicles and the fake inspection sticker.

The authorities encourage road users to drive responsibly and remind them that driving under the influence of intoxicants is a serious offence with potentially severe consequences.
