On Sunday, July 20th, the St. Sebastianus Marksmen Association is organising a special event in collaboration with the German Bone Marrow Donor Center (DKMS). The IGDS Day typing and donation action aims to increase the donor pool and raise awareness about stem cell donation and its life-saving potential.

The event will take place in the southern area of the fairgrounds on Schützenstraße, near the Rheinkniebrücke. From 10 am to 3 pm, individuals can attend the event and participate in the DKMS campaign.

For those who wish to join, the process is straightforward. Volunteers and medical staff will guide participants through the registration and typing process. This typically involves providing a simple cheek swab using a cotton swab inside the mouth to collect DNA for tissue typing.

By registering with DKMS, you could potentially save a life. If a match is found in the future, you may be called upon to donate stem cells. It's crucial to keep your contact details updated with DKMS and be ready to donate if matched.

For patients with blood cancer and other blood-related diseases, a stem cell transplant is often the last chance for a cure. In Germany, about every tenth patient doesn't have a matching genetic twin. That's why the DKMS campaign is so important.

The DKMS is a non-profit organisation dedicated to registering stem cell donors. Since 1991, they have been searching for donors worldwide and collaborating with other organisations. In 2024, they facilitated more than 9,126 stem cell donations worldwide.

Visitors at the IGDS Day are invited to participate in the campaign. In addition to the typing action, a donation box will also be set up. Each new registration costs the DKMS 50 euros, which is covered by donations.

The initiative for this campaign was taken by the Werstener, who learned about the young marksman's diagnosis. Every twelve minutes, someone in Germany is diagnosed with blood cancer. This campaign is in support of a young marksman from Düsseldorf who has been diagnosed with leukemia.

Join the IGDS Day typing and donation action on July 20th to help increase the donor pool and make a difference in someone's life. Check local announcements or DKMS communications for the exact venue and times. Together, we can help patients with blood cancer and other blood disorders.

  1. By attending the IGDS Day typing and donation action on July 20th at the fairgrounds, you can support the dental stem cell donation efforts, which are crucial for patients with blood-related medical conditions like cancer, as a potential donor could save a life.
  2. In addition to joining the stem cell donation initiative, you can also contribute to the cause by making a financial donation to cover the cost of each new registration with DKMS, helping increase the donor pool for individuals with blood cancer and other blood disorders.
