Dentist facing accusations for allegedly poisoning his wife using cyanide, with an unsavory romance twist and a planned murder scheme from prison in Colorado
In the ongoing saga of James Craig, the dentist husband accused of murdering his wife Angela, a series of lawyer changes have taken place ahead of his trial. The most notable withdrawal is that of Robert Werking, who was arrested for felony fourth-degree arson at his home.
Werking, who initially represented Craig, withdrew from the case due to his own legal troubles and mental health concerns. His withdrawal was formalized with a motion filed on July 3 or 4, 2025, just before the trial was scheduled to begin on July 10, 2025.
Following Werking's withdrawal, David Moses remained as Craig's defense attorney, and Ashley Whitham joined the defense team to continue handling the case. These changes occurred amidst ongoing serious allegations against Craig, including the murder-for-hire plot from jail and accusations that he poisoned his wife through protein shakes.
Investigations revealed that Craig had written letters to Konstantinidis, Angela's sister, in an attempt to convince her to fabricate evidence. The letters were intercepted during a cell search. Craig offered "essentially a blank check" for Konstantinidis to fabricate texts, phone records, and photographs to back up a fake story about her being friends with Angela Craig.
The potassium cyanide, a poison, was ordered on March 8 and delivered to James Craig's office on March 13. Angela's cause of death was determined to be acute cyanide and tetrahydrozoline poisoning, with subacute arsenic poisoning listed as a significant condition. Receipts showed the arsenic was purchased on February 24 and delivered to the Craig home on March 4, just two days before Angela Craig's first hospitalization.
During her first hospitalization, Angela texted her husband that she felt drugged. Another investigator testified that they retrieved a second letter to Konstantinidis - unopened - which indicated Craig believed his case hinged on "being able to find someone to say Angela was suicidal."
One of Angela's sisters claimed that James had drugged his wife several years prior to prevent her from stopping him from attempting suicide. Craig allegedly plotted to kill four people from behind bars, including lead detective Bobbi Olson.
Craig's trial is set to proceed as scheduled on July 10, 2025. The outcome of the trial will determine the fate of James Craig, who faces serious charges related to the death of his wife, Angela Craig, a mother of six.
