Daughter of a physician reportedly participated in a cranial operation - Daughter of a doctor reportedly participated in a cranial surgery procedure.
In a shocking turn of events, investigations against a renowned surgeon at the Graz University Hospital in Austria are still ongoing. The surgeon, who has not been named, is facing charges for an incident that occurred in January 2024 at the LKH University Hospital Graz.
The case came to light through an anonymous complaint filed with the Graz Public Prosecutor's Office in April 2024. It is alleged that during an emergency surgery on a 33-year-old man who suffered severe head injuries, the surgeon allowed her 12-year-old daughter to drill a hole in the patient's skull.
Initially, the surgeon denied that her daughter operated, but later boasted to colleagues that the girl had set the drill. The patient, who only found out about the case in July 2024 when the media reported on it, stated, "I didn't know I was the patient, I feel like a guinea pig!"
The patient has joined the criminal proceedings as a private plaintiff and is demanding compensation for pain and suffering. Charges have been brought against the two doctors involved.
However, the official version now is that the girl merely placed her hand on the operator's hand during the drilling, but the doctor maintained control at all times. The hospital announced that the operation was complication-free.
Investigations against the rest of the operating team have been dropped. Only medical personnel, students, and interns aged 16 and above are usually allowed in the operating room, and they can only observe. It is claimed that the girl drilled a hole in the patient's skull, which is typically not allowed for individuals under 16.
The patient's shocking revelation has been reported by Austrian media outlet "Krone". The details of the case are still under investigation, and the patient is seeking justice for the alleged bodily harm they suffered. The surgeon and her daughter have been suspended from duty by the hospital at the end of May 2024.
This incident, if proven true, raises serious questions about the ethical standards and practices within the medical profession. The public awaits the outcome of the ongoing investigations with bated breath.
