Current Sky News updates on ongoing quarterly ventures
In the current quarter, four projects are being spotlighted, showcasing the extensive work being done both locally and internationally. Among these, a project in Schildgen, Germany, stands out for its unique ecumenical cooperation between the Catholic Heart of Jesus parish and the Evangelical Andreaskirche.
The Schildgen counseling office, located in the library building behind the Catholic Church (Altenberger-Dom-Str. 138), offers confidential counseling and practical support for various life situations. This local initiative, known as the "Hole in the Stomach" project, provides cooked meals and healthy snacks to hungry children and young people at the Catholic Youth Agency's (kja) 65 youth centers and counseling centers.
The success of the Schildgen counseling office is due in part to the generous donations from Schildgen citizens, ensuring its continued operation. Interestingly, another local joint counseling office, operated by Caritas and Diakonie, has been supporting Schildgen residents for 20 years.
Moving beyond Schildgen, Father Stephan, a 91-year-old Cistercian monk, has been committed to projects in South Sudan since the 1990s. His ongoing initiatives are supported by the “Himmel un Ääd” organization, which reports on his projects in the Nuba Mountains and elsewhere. Father Stephan travels to South Sudan several weeks each year for on-site visits and exchanges with teachers and students.
The international project in Cameroon is a beekeeping project that offers an alternative source of income for disadvantaged mothers. Since 2019, German teacher and beekeeper Josue Damatal, along with a colleague, has been training women to become beekeepers in Cameroon. The success of the project is evident as the independence of the participants increases from year to year, as do the honey yields and the resulting income.
The income from beekeeping can be used to finance the school attendance of the children, making a significant impact on their lives. In South Sudan, Father Stephan's initiative (IPS) supports projects that aim to improve the lives of many, including those in the Nuba Mountains.
Representatives of the kja and the One World association "Horizontes" each received a symbolic donation check of €2,950 for their respective projects. Father Stephan, an accomplished author, has written over 50 books about his experiences in South Sudan.
The H&A team, known for sending a local news overview to subscribers' inboxes every morning at 7:07 AM, reports on a local and an international project each quarter. The team's unwavering support for Father Stephan's initiatives continues to make a difference in the lives of many.
