City Hosts Dementia Awareness Events: September-October

The city is hosting a series of events focused on dementia awareness and support throughout September and October. The programme includes information sessions, cultural activities, and interactive experiences for those affected by dementia, their relatives, and professionals.

Kicking off the events is a conversation offer for relatives on September 16 at the church on Lomonossowallee 55, from 10:00 to 12:00. The following day, an exchange with local support groups and councils takes place at the House of Encounter from 9:00 to 12:00. These events aim to provide a space for exchange, information, and shared experiences.

Later in the month, on September 24, 'brain jogging' with coffee and cake is held at Mehrgenerationenhaus Action Sonnenschein at 13:00. The main event, 'Wochen der Demenz', hosted by the Demenz Network and the Demenz & Culture Network, runs from September 12 to 28, 2025, featuring a variety of activities and lectures. One notable event is the lecture 'Perspective Change - Experiencing Dementia' on September 23 at the Town Hall from 14:30 to 16:30.

For a more interactive experience, a dementia-sensitive zoo visit is held at Greifswald Zoo on September 16 from 14:00 to 16:00, costing 7 euros with registration required. Additionally, an exhibition 'Who Rests, Rots' on literature, games, and activity ideas is displayed at the City Library from September 19 to October 3. The ILWIA action day 'Living in Old Age' on September 12 at Fischmarkt features a dementia simulator, quiz, and information.

These events offer a comprehensive programme that caters to various interests and needs, providing support, education, and cultural experiences for all involved in the journey with dementia.
