CDC's NCIRD Director Resigns Amid Leadership Shakeup

The NCIRD Bulletin, a crucial publication from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), keeps the public informed about key developments in infectious respiratory illnesses and vaccine-preventable diseases. Recently, it has also shared updates on changes in leadership at the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD).

Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, who previously served as the Director of NCIRD, resigned in early September 2025. His departure came following the dismissal of CDC Director Susan Monarez in late August 2025. Monarez, who took office on July 29, 2025, served for just over a month before her removal. Since then, Jim O'Neill has been appointed as the Acting Director of the CDC. However, the directorship of NCIRD remains vacant following Daskalakis's resignation.

The NCIRD Bulletin continues to provide crucial information on respiratory and vaccine-preventable diseases despite the recent leadership changes at the CDC and NCIRD. The CDC is currently seeking a new director for NCIRD, and Acting Director Jim O'Neill is leading the CDC until a permanent replacement is appointed.
