CDC's NCIRD Director Resigns Amid Leadership Shakeup
The NCIRD Bulletin, a crucial publication from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), keeps the public informed about key developments in infectious respiratory illnesses and vaccine-preventable diseases. Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, who previously served as the Director of NCIRD, resigned in early September 2025. His departure came following the dismissal of CDC Director Susan Monarez in late August 2025. Monarez, who took office on July 29, 2025, served for just over a month before her removal. Since then, Jim O'Neill has been appointed as the Acting Director of the CDC. However, the directorship of NCIRD remains vacant following Daskalakis's resignation.
