In the heart of Siberia, the Republic of Yakutia is taking strides to combat the rising incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Over the past five years, the morbidity rate in the region has seen a concerning increase of 45%.

To address this issue, specialists from the Ministry of Health of Yakutia recommend that residents undergo annual dispensarization after the age of 40, and every three years for those over 18. This proactive approach aims to detect CVD cases early and reduce the overall impact of the disease.

In an effort to educate residents about CVD risk factors and prevention measures, the Republic has initiated the Week of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention from August 11 to August 15. During this week, doctors will participate in TV and radio broadcasts, print and online media, and social networks to share valuable information.

The Week of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention also focuses on raising awareness about specific risk factors such as smoking, alcohol abuse, low physical activity, obesity, and diabetes. For instance, smoking, in particular, increases blood pressure, causes peripheral vascular spasm, and increases heart rate.

While there is no direct data on the impact of these prevention strategies on mortality rates in Yakutia over the past five years, general knowledge suggests that such measures typically include public health campaigns, medical check-ups, and integrating nursing and primary healthcare strategies to manage risk factors.

The Republic has also made significant strides in improving its healthcare infrastructure, with new polyclinics, hospitals, feldsher-midwifery points, and physician ambulatories being built in the regions.

Elena Kylbanova, a prominent figure in Yakutia's healthcare sector, underscores the importance of individual responsibility in preventing CVD. She emphasizes that while medical intervention can help manage complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and heart failure, it is essential for residents to eat properly, avoid harmful habits, and maintain physical activity.

Despite the challenges, Yakutia continues to strive towards a healthier future, with the opening of a Cardiovascular Center three years ago and the ongoing efforts to combat CVD. The region's residents are encouraged to participate in the Week of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and take proactive steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
