Bomb Disposal Underway in Duisburg; Residents Advised to Stay Indoors
A bomb disposal operation is underway in Duisburg today. The ordnance disposal service cannot defuse the bomb on-site, and it will be detonated later today in close proximity to the discovery site. Residents are advised to stay indoors within a 600-meter radius, while a 350-meter radius around the discovery site is being evacuated.
Approximately 200 people in residential buildings, two refugee shelters, and adjacent commercial businesses are affected by the evacuation. Police and municipal employees are cordoning off the area around the discovery site to prevent further traffic. The S28 bus service is likely to suspend operations for the duration, and passengers are advised to check for schedule changes.
To manage the situation, a central collection point will be set up for evacuees. Separate locations will be provided for those currently infected with COVID-19 and others. A support center has been established on-site to inform residents about the evacuation, and a hotline is available for those with current COVID-19 infections or care needs. 60 cubic meters of sand and 40,000 liters of water will be used to secure the detonation, extending the evacuation measures and closures into the evening hours.
The city of Duisburg is providing updates on its website and social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Residents are advised to check the official Duisburg city website or local authorities for real-time updates regarding the bomb disposal of an 'unzündbaren Bombe' (non-detonable bomb) tonight. The detonation is expected to take place later today, and residents within a 600-meter radius are advised to stay indoors.
