Bolsonaro announces "partial recovery" following kidney complication

Jair Bolsonaro, the former President of Brazil, was admitted to a hospital in Brasília in an emergency on Monday. The hospital visit was just days after the sentencing for the 2018 coup attempt, for which Bolsonaro was sentenced to over 27 years in prison, but he is not currently in prison for these events.

Upon admission, Bolsonaro was dehydrated, with an elevated heart rate and low blood pressure. An MRI was performed to determine the cause of Bolsonaro's recurrent dizziness, which showed no acute changes. Following hydration and medication, there has been a partial improvement in Bolsonaro's health.

The former President has been experiencing frequent hospital visits in recent years, one of the reasons being the aftermath of the stabbing he suffered in 2018 during his election campaign. Tests conducted on Bolsonaro revealed persistent anemia and altered renal function, with high levels of creatinine.

Currently, Bolsonaro is under house arrest as a preventive measure while being investigated for attempting to obstruct investigations into the 2018 coup attempt. The trial, led by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, is intensely observed internationally, with verdicts expected around September 12, 2025.

Further tests will continue in the coming hours for Bolsonaro. The most recent hospital visit before his current admission was on Sunday for the treatment of skin lesions. The current trial involves Bolsonaro, who is accused of planning a coup after losing the 2022 elections; he is temporarily under house arrest with electronic monitoring due to a high flight risk, including an alleged planned escape to Argentina.

We hope for a speedy recovery for the former President. Stay tuned for updates on Bolsonaro's health and the ongoing trial.
