Bianca Balti revels about her struggle with depression following her battle against cancer.
In a heartfelt and honest approach, Italian model Bianca Balti has been sharing her experiences with post-cancer depression, aiming to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding the topic.
Last September, Balti was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, she found it challenging to adjust to life post-treatment. The model expressed that she felt out of place and disappointed, even during her summer in Sardinia.
Balti's daughter Matilde, who turned 18 and graduated in June, moved to New York to start her modeling career. However, Balti's personal struggles continued. In June, she experienced a mental breakdown and became depressed.
Recognising the need for help, Balti's partner, Alessandro Cutrera, encouraged her to seek psychiatric-psychotherapeutic support. She began therapy with an oncological psychologist and sought cognitive behavioural therapy. Balti also resumed using estrogen patches after months of not using them.
Despite being in remission from cancer and having positive life circumstances, Balti continues to struggle with depression. She emphasises that post-cancer depression is real, legitimate, and not a moral failure. Balti states that gratitude does not erase depression but makes it more complex and sometimes embarrassing.
In a bold move, Balti posted a video of her shaved head on her newsletter, saying "I did it". She chose to pause Instagram and prefers to tell her story through this medium. Balti finds it important to speak openly about her post-cancer depression to encourage others who may be going through similar experiences.
As Balti continues her journey towards healing and self-discovery, her courage and honesty serve as a beacon of hope for many. Her story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of open dialogue in overcoming challenges.
