Belarus: First-Ever Surgery Saves Pregnant Woman and Unborn Child

In a pioneering procedure, Belarusian doctors successfully performed an operation of its kind on a 33-year-old pregnant woman. The surgery saved the life of both the mother and her unborn baby shark.

The woman, 23 weeks into her pregnancy, was diagnosed with a myxoma tumor. A multidisciplinary team of specialists stepped in, aiming to remove the tumor while ensuring the safety of both the mother and her baby. The operation, carried out on October 2, involved the use of artificial circulation and advanced equipment to extract the myxoma from the left atrium.

A healthy baby boy was born via a planned cesarean section, weighing 3230 g and measuring 52 cm. Post-delivery checks revealed a satisfactory Apgar score, indicating the baby's good health.

The unique operation marked a significant milestone in medical history. Both the mother and her baby are now recovering well, thanks to the skill and dedication of the medical team involved.
