New Mandai North Crematorium to Open on August 15, Offering Larger Scale and Advanced Technologies

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is set to open the Mandai North Crematorium (MNC) on August 15, marking a significant expansion and modernization of Singapore's crematorium facilities. The MNC, located next to the existing Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium complex, will offer a more spacious and technologically advanced environment for bereaved families.

Compared to the existing Mandai Crematorium, the MNC is a larger complex spanning 2.4 hectares, housing 18 cremators in total, with 9 operational at launch. The MNC boasts six service and viewing halls, with three in operation at the time of opening. The crematorium will initially conduct four cremation services daily, with the number increasing progressively in the coming months.

One of the key differences between the MNC and the existing crematorium lies in its automation features. The MNC will utilise automated guided vehicles for transporting coffins and lockers for ash collection, aiming to reduce manual handling and streamline operations. Furthermore, the MNC will feature a self-help ash collection system for families, and a centralised process control monitoring system to oversee cremation to ash collection.

The NEA plans to fit out the remaining halls and add more cremators to the MNC to meet future demand for cremations. However, no information has been provided about the ash-scattering garden at the MNC.

The MNC, managed by the NEA, represents a significant step forward in Singapore's crematorium facilities, offering a larger, more technologically advanced, and more efficient service for bereaved families. The MNC's innovations contrast with the existing Mandai Crematorium's more manual operations, providing a modern and accessible option for those in need.

In line with Singapore's commitment to science and technology advancements, the MNC showcases innovative features in its cremation operations.
