In a heartbreaking turn of events, German badminton professional Marvin Seidel and his wife Katrin have lost their newborn twins, Clara and Jacob, who lived only a few days after birth in August 2025 [1][2][3][4].

The news of the loss was shared by Marvin Seidel on Instagram, accompanied by the text "Tiny Team Seidel Loading...". An illustration was shared featuring a small zebra and a small elephant, a starry sky, and a cross, along with the names of the children, Clara and Jacob, and their birth and death dates. The post also included an illustration of two onesies with two ultrasound images [4].

Marvin Seidel, who participated in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, has been deeply affected by the loss. He won gold in men's doubles at the European Championships in Madrid in 2022 and has won numerous bronze medals with the team, most recently in 2024 in Lodz. Despite his athletic achievements, the loss of his twins has left an indelible mark on his life [1][2][3][4].

The Seidels are not alone in their grief. Losing a child is a devastating experience, and there are various resources available globally to support grieving parents after infant loss. These resources include bereavement counseling and therapy, support groups, hospitals and maternity services, and online resources [5].

In Germany, services such as the German Bereavement Association (Deutscher Trauerhilfe e.V.) and hospitals typically connect parents to local grief support networks. Internationally, organisations like Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) provide resources and assistance to bereaved parents [5].

Marvin Seidel and his wife Katrin are deeply mourning the loss of their twins. They have expressed their gratitude for the time they had with Clara and Jacob, and their love for them remains undiminished despite their short time together [4]. The cause of death for Clara and Jacob was not made public.

Our thoughts are with Marvin Seidel, Katrin, and their family during this difficult time.
