Anticipating Crisis Aversion: A Developer Invents AI Application to Foresee Sensory Overwhelm
In the world of health technology, a new app is making waves – ssensimm. Created by UK-based software developer and neurodiversity advocate, Jennifer Opal, ssensimm is an AI-powered application designed to provide support for neurodivergent individuals, particularly those waiting for a diagnosis and without access to adequate support.
Opal's vision for ssensimm is to make it a dependable resource for neurodivergent people, offering assistance in managing their sensory needs and helping them navigate through potentially challenging situations.
The Making of ssensimm
The journey of ssensimm began as Opal's personal machine-learning project. However, it gained significant attention when she shared it on LinkedIn, resulting in a waitlist of nearly 5,000 people. The app's popularity led Opal to transform her project into a full-fledged health tech solution.
How ssensimm Works
Ssensimm collects real-time sensory inputs from wearables such as Apple Watch, Oura Ring, or Ultrahuman Ring. It uses this data to predict potential sensory challenges and suggest personalized coping strategies. The app takes into account various factors, including environmental factors like noise levels and location, personal data like fatigue and user patterns, and how menstrual cycles affect sensory needs.
In addition, ssensimm integrates with Claude AI for pattern analysis and forecasting sensory challenges. It also offers a fallback system, ensuring support even when offline. A unique feature of ssensimm is its ability to message a trusted person if the user is struggling.
Privacy and Accessibility
Privacy is a top priority for ssensimm. All data stored in the app is kept locally on users' devices, ensuring maximum privacy and security. The app does not monetize or sell user data.
Opal plans to make ssensimm accessible to more people in the future, potentially without the need for a wearable. Currently, the app is available only via Apple Watch and will be available on iOS.
A Personal Mission
Opal's personal experience with neurodivergence (she was diagnosed with ADHD in her late 20s) has fuelled her passion for creating ssensimm. She wants the app to help those who are trying to understand the signs and signals of a meltdown before they occur, making daily life easier for neurodivergent individuals.
Opal has experienced "autistic meltdowns" herself, such as at a disability help desk at the airport. She hopes that ssensimm can help prevent such situations by providing timely and personalized support.
Sign up for early access to ssensimm on its website, with the planned launch at the end of 2025. A step towards a more inclusive and supportive world for neurodivergent individuals, ssensimm is set to revolutionize the way we approach health technology.
