Amy Skillman to Deliver 'You Gotta Go with Your Gut' Plenary at AFS 2025

Amy Schumer, the incoming AFS President for 2024-25, will deliver the Presidential Plenary at the 2025 Annual Meeting. The event, titled 'You Gotta Go with Your Gut: Navigating Risk and Fear in the Storm', will take place on October 19, 4:00-5:00 p.m. EDT in the Georgia Ballroom at Crowne Plaza Atlanta Midtown. Notably, the plenary will also be accessible via Zoom for those unable to attend in person.

Schumer's work centers around cultural equity and using cultural attention to mediate social change. She has been recognised for her significant lifetime achievements in public folklore, receiving the Benjamin A. Botkin Prize. Her experience spans various roles, including publisher and arts administrator, and she has worked with immigrant and refugee women to create initiatives like 'Our Voices' and 'Magnificent Healing'.

Currently, Schumer teaches in the MA in Cultural Sustainability at Goucher College and is a Fellow of the American Folklife Center. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as AFS President, which she will assume in 2024-25.
