British-Australian actress Miriam Margolyes, widely acclaimed for her portrayal of Professor Pomona Sprout in the Harry Potter films, has revealed that she may not live beyond the next five to six years due to her deteriorating health. In an interview with The Times, the 84-year-old actress stated that she has been battling spinal stenosis, which has left her dependent on a wheelchair, and that she is registered as disabled.

Margolyes has had a successful acting career, featuring in popular productions like Blackadder, for which she received a BAFTA nomination, and Martin Scorsese's costume drama, The Age of Innocence. Following her stint in Harry Potter, she appeared in the series Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and Call the Midwife.

In the summer of 2024, Margolyes disclosed on the podcast Table Manners that she had undergone heart surgery and now has a cow's aortic valve. Despite these health challenges, Margolyes, who yearns to play roles beyond wheelchair-bound characters, remains devoted to her craft, finding great joy in acting.

Over the years, Margolyes has battled various health issues, including spinal stenosis, arthritis, and rheumatism. These conditions have significantly impacted her mobility, a situation she wishes to avoid in her future roles. However, she expresses regret that her physical strength is not sufficient to take on such roles.
